Wedding Flora

Is there a wedding in your future? Friends and family members are usually very appreciative of help in selecting flowers for both arrangements, and for bouquets and corsages. Obviously the bride and groom's favorites should be first on the list, and here are a few others to include:
Honeysuckle
– a long time symbol of faithful love.
Ivy
- an ancient symbol of fidelity. Ivy wreaths were given to brides and grooms in Greece in ancient times.
Lily
– a symbol of purity; associated with the Roman goddess of marriage Juno, lilies were used in bridal crowns.
Lily-of-the-Valley
– this fragrant plant was thought to encourage virtue and faithfulness, hence its other name, Lily Constancy.
Myrtle
– traditional German brides still wear myrtle wreaths, symbolizing love and constancy.
Rose
– a very well known symbol of love from the Middle Ages down to the present.
Rosemary
– a pungent needle-leaved herb with lovely, tiny blue flowers, and commonly used in wedding corsages and bouquets in past times; it is an emblem of fidelity. Sometimes a few leaves were mixed into the wedding cake!
Sweet Majoram
– another herb, meaning “happiness” to ancient Greeks and Romans.
Yarrow
– according to legend a couple carrying this magical plant at their wedding can expect at least seven years of marital bliss.
